Dominic Barton

Dominic Barton is Chair of Rio Tinto, Chair of Invest in Canada, Chair of LeapFrog Investments, and Chair of Asia House. He is also Senior Advisor and Partner at Radical Ventures, an artificial intelligence investment firm.

He spent 30 years at McKinsey & Company, serving three terms as Global Managing Partner from 2009 to 2018. He subsequently served as Canada’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China from 2019 to 2021.

Dominic is a former Chair of Teck Resources and served as Chancellor of the University of Waterloo from 2018 to 2024. He co-founded FCLT Global, which promotes long-term capital allocation, and has co-authored four books, including Talent Wins. He holds degrees from the University of British Columbia and Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar, and has received eight honorary doctorates.
