Laura Hewitt

Laura Hewitt is the Senior Vice-President of Global Government Affairs and Public Policy at Sun Life. Laura is a seasoned public affairs professional with experience in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. In her current role, she is responsible for Sun Life’s government affairs activities globally and its engagement on public policy and geopolitics.

Laura joined Sun Life in 2018 as the Assistant Vice-President (AVP) of Government and Regulatory Affairs for Sun Life Canada. In 2019, she also took on an acting role with added accountability for sustainability, including the implementation of the organization’s sustainability strategy and reporting. Most recently, Laura was the AVP of Pharmaceutical Benefits and Innovation at Sun Life. In this position she led a team of pharmacists and product experts to evolve drug benefit plans and help employers navigate the changing health benefits landscape in Canada.

Prior to joining Sun Life, Laura worked in government relations, corporate outreach, and strategy at Export Development Canada, a federal crown corporation responsible for supporting Canada’s exporters. She has also held positions with the Government of Ontario and the Government of Canada in a variety of subject matter areas, including economic development, tourism, and national defence.

Laura is currently a Board Member with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Canada China Business Council. She holds a master’s degree from Ryerson University’s Public Policy and Administration program and a Bachelor of Public Affairs and Policy Management from Carleton University.
