Bernie Derible

Bernie Derible serves as Ontario’s Agent General to ASEAN, leading efforts to expand trade, investment, and strategic partnerships between Ontario and the dynamic economies of Southeast Asia.  

With decades of senior leadership experience in both government and the military, he brings a unique blend of diplomatic, strategic, and operational expertise to advancing Ontario’s global economic interests.

Prior to his tenure as Agent General, Bernie most recently served as Deputy Minister and Commissioner for Emergency Management Ontario. Throughout his government career, Bernie advised on major infrastructure, investment, and development initiatives, building partnerships that linked policy priorities with commercial outcomes.  

He has worked extensively with industry leaders, investors, and multilateral organizations to promote sustainable growth and attract high-value investment. Bernie’s distinguished military background complements his government service, providing deep expertise in strategic planning, international co-operation, and leadership in complex environments.

As Agent General, Bernie is focused on positioning Ontario as a partner of choice in sectors where the province is a global leader: technology, including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, cybersecurity and fintech; clean technology; life sciences and digital health; advanced manufacturing; agri-food; and education. He works to open doors for Ontario companies, support trade missions, and showcase Ontario as a premier destination for innovation, talent, and investment.
