Edward McCauley, Ph.D., FRSC

President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Calgary (Canada)

Dr. Edward McCauley is the ninth president and vice-chancellor of the University of Calgary, a position he has held since January 2019. He previously served as the Vice-President (Research), a professor in Biological Sciences, and the NSERC Tier I Canada Research Chair in Population Ecology at the University of Calgary, and as a professor in the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology, and the Director of the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis at the University of California (Santa Barbara), U.S.A.

 

A highly regarded scholar in ecology, population biology, and aquatic ecosystems, McCauley has attracted significant external funding for his multidisciplinary research in population dynamics and ecological processes.

 

Throughout a distinguished academic career, McCauley’s governance and advisory roles have championed a symbiotic relationship between academia, government, and industry. These collaborations have produced enduring benefits to the wider community, such as the Centre for Health Informatics’ Wastewater Tracking, Advancing Canadian Water Assets, and the Energy Transition Centre.
